31 May is World No Tobacco Day
This annual event educates the public about the dangers of tobacco use. The business practices of tobacco companies. What WHO is doing to combat the tobacco epidemic, and what people all over the world can do to assert their right to health and a healthy lifestyle and to protect future generations.
World No Tobacco Day was established in 1987 by the World Health Organization. It draws global attention to the tobacco epidemic and the preventable death and disease it causes. The World Health Assembly passed Resolution WHA42.19 in 1988, calling for World No Tobacco Day to be observed every year on May 31.
The Tobacco Threat
Tobacco use continues to be one of the most serious public health threats, claiming the lives of more than eight million people worldwide each year. More than seven million of those deaths are the direct result of tobacco use, while slightly more than one million are the result of nonsmokers being exposed to second-hand smoke [Momentum Wellness]
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse most smokers use tobacco regularly because they are addicted to nicotine. Addiction is characterized by compulsive use despite negative health consequences. Most smokers will need to make multiple attempts before they are able to quit permanently. There are various methods to assist people to quit, these include varenicline, hypnotherapy, nicotine-replacement therapy and in some cases antidepressants such as bupropion.

Introducing the Vape
The electronic or e-cigarette, also known as ‘vape,’ was introduced to the market as an alternative to tobacco use. Instead of burning tobacco leaves, these devices vaporize a nicotine solution mixed with liquid flavours. E-cigarettes have become widely available since their introduction in 2004, and their use has grown exponentially. Despite limited pharmacological testing, e-cigarettes are frequently marketed as a smoking cessation aid, as well as a healthier, less expensive, and more socially acceptable way to get your ‘fix.’
Momentum health says several studies have been conducted around the world to determine whether smoking an e-cigarette will help you quit smoking completely. These studies compared e-cigarettes to other traditional methods of quitting smoking, such as nicotine replacement therapy and/or behavioural support. While there is some evidence that e-cigarettes may help some people quit smoking, these results appear to be only temporary (around six months). There is no quality evidence to show an association between e-cigarette use and smoking cessation after 12 months. Furthermore, South African studies have discovered that people who have successfully quit using e-cigarettes are healthier.

Thanks to African Cannamed’s high-Quality CBD Vape oil, I have been cigarette and nicotine free for the past 4 months. The anti-anxiety effect delivered by the CBD is amazing. Whenever I had a craving I had a few pulls of the vape and immediately felt better. I could also carry on working and go about my daily business without any problems, I just feel relaxed. Not intoxicated. I also feel relief from muscle tension as a happy side effect and don’t need my prescription anti-anxiety pills as often anymore. Thank you so much for making this medicine available!
